Call for choreographers: residency exchange Italy-Lithuania

The initiative, by CSC Centro per la Scena Contemporanea of Bassano del Grappa with Lithuania Contemporary Dance Association, aims to stimulate cultural encounters, to develop and implement an artists' exchange program of residencies between Italy and Lithuania, in the context of contemporary dance, and to intensify the presence of Italian and Lithuanian creators in new territories.
The programme invites one dance artist from Italy and one from Lithuania to spend together one week of exploration and research in Lithuania and one week in Italy (in Bassano del Grappa). The dance artists will be invited to get to know each other’s artistic practices and approaches, with a focus on how a peer to peer exchange in the context of a creative displacement can impact artistic practices and projects.
The participants will also get to know the hosting organisations, attend performances, meet professionals and artists active in the two cultural ecologies, and be informed about the local artistic scenes. Members of the involved organisations will support the artists, facilitating their discoveries, dialogues and exchanges of experiences.
Aims of the residencies:
- Support and stimulate artists by providing them with an environment and means to support the exploration, research and encounter with a new cultural scene.
- Share and exchange on artistic practices, with a specific focus on how a peer to peer exchange informs the practices of creation, transmission and helps develop a personal artistic language
- Encourage artistic renewal, giving choreographers access to new and stimulating cultural environments.
- Facilitate the exchange of artistic points of view and contribute to the formation of lasting bonds between Italian and Lithuanian artists.
- Promote the work and career development of Italian artists at an international level.
- Develop new networks for possible artistic creation, production and dissemination.
Eligible Candidates: This international residency is for choreographers based and active in Italy and Lithuania, with at least two years of experience and activity who have created at least two works presented in professional contexts. A good knowledge of written and spoken English is required. The applications will be evaluated by the international team of the partners organisations.
2023 calendar details:
July 31st– August 6th, Lithuania, Kaunas, during international performance art festival "Contempo"
August 14th – 21st, Bassano del Grappa Italy.
The amount of the support is 1500 euros gross, inclusive of fee and perdiem.
Accommodation will be provided by each hosting organisation to the participants.
Centro per la Scena Contemporanea will provide travel support, a return flight from Italy to Vilnius and local travel costs to the Italian participant.
