Foreword
With a view to participating in the initiative launched by CSC Centro per la Scena Contemporanea in collaboration with MIBACT and the Quebec Delegation in Rome, to intensify the presence of Italian creators in new territories and stimulating cultural circles, CSC has concluded a collaboration agreement with the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), to implement an artist exchange and studio-apartment residency program between Italy and Québec in contemporary dance. This residency follows several years of collaboration between Circuit-Est, centre chorégraphique de Montréal, the Centro per la Scena Contemporanea.
The eight weeks long residency enables joint work between Québec and Italian choreographers. The Italian choreographer will spend three weeks at Centro per la Scena Contemporanea in Bassano, and will continue the residency for five weeks at Circuit-Est in Montréal.
In exchange, a choreographer from Québec will encounter and work with the Italian choreographer for three weeks at the Centro per la Scena Contemporanea in Bassano del Grappa, followed by two weeks of research alone, and three weeks together at Circuit-Est, in Montréal.
Accommodations and a workspace will be provided to the artists in Bassano del Grappa and Montréal. A dramaturg will support the artists in their project for part of the residency, to support their dialogues and exchanges.
Objectives
The residency program has five objectives:
To support and stimulate artists by making available to them a suitable environment and the means to research, create and disseminate their works.
To foster artistic renewal for artists by giving them access to a new and stimulating cultural environments.
To facilitate exchanges of artistic viewpoints and contribute to the formation of durable ties between artists from Italy and abroad.
To promote the work and career development of Italian artists internationally.
To develop new networks for artistic creation, production and dissemination.

Target applicants This international residency is for choreographers based and active in Italy, with over two years of practice who have had at least two works presented in a professional context. Fluent written and spoken English is required.
Length of stay and amount of the grant
Two-month collaborative residency, from August 2 to October 11, 2021, Three weeks in Bassano (August 16 to September 5, 2021) and five weeks in Montréal, at Circuit-Est (September 6 to October 11 2021).

The amount of the grant is 3000 euro gross. The successful applicant pays for the cost of their personal insurance, living expenses and expenses related to the project, Centro per la Scena Contemporanea will provide the travel support for a return flight from Italy to Montréal.

For more than thirty years, Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique has supported professionals on both technical and artistic levels, offering them spaces and services adapted to research, creation, advanced training, and professional development in contemporary dance and getting involved in its milieu. Open to the whole community, this resource-sharing-based organization has seven members: Louise Bédard Danse, Sylvain Émard Danse, Danièle Desnoyers/Le Carré des Lombes, maribé – sors de ce corps/Marie Béland, Frédérick Gravel, MAYDAY and Catherine Gaudet.
Circuit-Est has at its disposal 5 studios, located in 2 venues: édifice Jean-Pierre-Perreault and espace Saint-André. The choreographic centre rents these spaces at very reasonable rates, as well as it offers a programming of activities—compounded of master classes, workshops, mentorship projects, residencies, and international exchanges—intended for dance professionals.
Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique was awarded the 2013 “I love dance/J’aime la danse” Organization Award by the Canadian Dance Assembly and was finalist for the Prix de l’Action culturelle de la ville de Montréal-2015 for its project Alors, on crée ? in collaboration with Louise Bédard Danse.
It is a member organization of Regroupement québécois de la danse, Voies culturelles des faubourgs and La Machinerie.
The residency for Italian artists
The artist selected will be housed in a studio, located in the centre of Montréal, close to the premises and studios of Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique.
